Workstation Assessment
A workplace risk assessment is an assessment of an employee’s work area, whether it is a desk with computer or a manual labour area. Unity identifies any problems associated with the environment, associated equipment or machine use, and advises on seating, posture and position. Unity can advise on any adverse effects that poor examples of various working positions and repetitive actions can have, and how to prevent injury or sickness caused by the workplace layout.
Display Screen Equipment Assessment
The risks of working in front of screens may seem low, but the risks must be assessed under Regulations established by the HSE in 1993. Unity will undertake an on-site assessment, giving guidance on aspects such as positioning, set up and use of display screen equipment and the surrounding work environment including seating and lighting of the work area to obtain the optimum working conditions.
Unity will also advise on specialist equipment which may be needed for employees with specific health issues or disabilities.
Ergonomic and Manual Handling Assessments
Unity assesses the ergonomic relationship between the worker and the physical environment, identifying areas where an employee may find a task difficult to perform within the safe abilities of their range of dexterity and movement.
Lifting and carrying boxes or loads incorrectly can injure the musculoskeletal system; oversized or heavy items should be placed on suitable equipment such as trolleys, or with a colleague’s assistance.
Unity also provides manual handling assessments and training to employees on the correct procedure for lifting, moving or carrying objects around the working environment.
