Sickness and Absence
Unity can provide a confidential and supportive assessment of the individual’s ill health which will provide management with some tools to manage the absence. This information will include how long an employee may be absent from work, any safeguards or adjustments that may be required, when they are likely to be fit to return to work and whether a period of staged return or rehabilitation during return to work is required.

Employers will be advised on strategies for dealing with sick employees, on current legislation to ensure that no laws are broken, and to avoid situations where the company may be exposed to legal action. Unity emphasises early contact with employees on sick leave to begin the rehabilitation process so that time is not wasted whilst they are returning to work fitness.

Returning To Work
A Return to Work Assessment involves a functional capacity evaluation of the individual to assess their fitness to return to work and Unity will advise employers and employees on the best ‘return to work’ strategies for individual workers. As well as considering what the returning employee is capable of, it may be necessary for the employer to make changes to the working environment; Unity will advise how to safely adapt the workplace (see Workplace Risk Assessment).

Ill Health & Retirement

A range of ill health retirement services are undertaken by Unity. When an employee has been unfit for work for some time with a prognosis of permanent illness, the company or employee may wish to terminate their contract; Unity will assess an individual’s health and entitlement to any ill-health retirement benefits whilst considering employment law, before advising the company on how best to proceed.
